Re: Proposed Motocross racing facility on Mt.
Loop Highway
Dear Mr. Strode and Mr. Thomas,
As you are aware, the Mountain Loop Conservancy has taken an active role in preventing the construction of the referenced project at the proposed location east of Granite
Falls. Our reasons for doing so are too numerous to describe in detail in this letter. For the sake of brevity, we are certain that allowing the race track development would result in a broad deterioration in the present quality of life for nearby residents and wildlife while detouring the traditional land use in this area from quiet, clean residential, recreational and forestry purposes. Virtually all local residents and many visitors who frequent this area are joined in opposition to the proposed location. There is sufficient legal precedence in successful motocross track oppositions across the country for us to believe, beyond doubt, that the project MXGP is proposing will not be successful at the selected location.
In the unlikely event that your proposed change in zoning passes and a Conditional Use Permit is granted by Snohomish
County, we will continue to take whatever legal action(s) appropriate to reverse those decisions. Many of the residents that would be impacted by the proposed facility have lived in this area for generations and share a deep desire to retain their quality of life along the Mountain Loop Highway.
While we respect your right to pursue to the project, we are hopeful you understand the potential loss for area residents and our strong conviction to prevent it.
Sincerely,
Jeff Van Datta
President, MLC
